Best Family SUVs When Cargo Space Matters

Family SUV shopping often starts with the published cargo number, but the real test is shape. A wide square opening, low load floor, and flat-folding seats can be more useful than a bigger number attached to an awkward cargo bay.

Bring the objects that matter if possible. A stroller, hockey bag, dog crate, or travel cooler can reveal problems that a spec sheet hides. The same is true for child seats, especially when two seats need to leave room for an adult passenger.

Second-row access matters as children grow. Sliding seats, wide door openings, rear climate controls, and USB placement can make daily use easier. A beautiful interior is less useful if it turns every school run into a reach-and-buckle exercise.

Three-row SUVs should be judged by how often the third row will be used. Occasional use allows more compromise. Daily third-row duty requires adult access, air vents, cupholders, and cargo space behind the last row.
